A voice assistant knows answers. Ryszard knows your home.
Language models are interchangeable. The lasting value is in the layer that knows where the conversation happens, what is in the room and what is allowed.

Safety and privacy
An AI should not have unlimited access to your home.
Ryszard gets only the devices and actions you share with it. Sensitive actions can require confirmation or be blocked altogether.

- Raw audio is not stored by default.

Does Ryszard replace Home Assistant?
No. Home Assistant remains the layer of devices and automations. Ryszard adds conversation, context, memory and safe execution of actions.
Do I need a Raspberry Pi?
The first beta supports selected hardware setups, but Ryszard Satellite is software and eventually won't be tied to a single device.
Does Ryszard run locally?
The Core, your home's configuration, the entity mapping and the policies run locally. The beta may use an external model for conversation and for speech recognition and synthesis.
Does Ryszard record conversations?
Raw audio is not stored by default. Before the beta we will publish a clear description of the data flow and the diagnostic settings.
Who pays for the AI model?
The beta assumes your own API key. That keeps the cost of conversations transparent and under your control.
How much will it cost?
The beta will also test the pricing model. Testers will know the terms before the paid version launches, and taking part in the beta is free.
Can I use a name other than Ryszard?
The architecture will eventually allow other wake words. In the first beta the number of supported setups will be limited.
Which language does Ryszard speak?
The beta starts in Polish, and the architecture is ready for English: language is a setting of the home or the person, not a separate version of the product.
